Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best VR in Houston?
Exitus VR Houston is the only spot we gave a perfect 5 out of 5. It is a small owner-run arcade where Dora walks you through the games, monitors your progress, and gives hints when you get stuck. We played the zombie shooter Rotten Apple-Zombies and the escape room Mind Horror on Oculus Rift headsets with crisp visuals and no motion sickness. If you want the most polished all-around family VR outing, Immersive Gamebox Houston and Dave & Buster's both earned 4.5 from us too.
How much does VR cost in Houston?
It varies a lot by venue. Dave & Buster's is the cheapest way to try it at $6 per VR play for a 10 to 15 minute experience, and you can win plays with arcade tickets instead of paying cash. Immersive Gamebox runs $35 per person for a 60 minute session, so our family of four paid close to $250 for about 90 minutes. Battlefield Houston's Ultimate VR & Laser Tag Package was $32 per person, which came to $128 for the four of us and included 30 minutes of each. AR's Entertainment Hub sells an unlimited day pass that covers the VR zone along with laser tag, roller skating, bumper cars, and more.
Where should I take kids or book a VR birthday party in Houston?
Exitus VR caters to all ages and skill levels and Blake recommends it as a kids' birthday party venue. Immersive Gamebox works well for families with kids over 7 (their Alien Aptitude Test is built for that age), though note some titles like the Squid Game room require players to be 16, and at $35 a head it reads more as a birthday or milestone treat. AR's Entertainment Hub is the most all-ages friendly since a single day pass keeps everyone busy for hours with VR plus bowling, skating, and mini golf. For older kids, Battlefield Houston sets a minimum age of 8 and a 4'7" height requirement, and it has party rooms available.
Where can I do free-roam VR in Houston?
Three of our spots let you physically walk around instead of standing in place. Dave & Buster's runs Jurassic World VR Expedition and Men in Black: Galactic Getaway in dome setups on HTC Vive with room to roam. AR's Entertainment Hub uses xR technology that maps a real physical set, so you actually walk through the space (up to 4 players) as it transforms into the game. Battlefield Houston has around 20 VR stations with over 100 single-player titles alongside its multi-level laser tag arena.
Which Houston VR spot is best for teens and big groups?
Battlefield Houston is our pick for action-hungry teens. It pairs a huge VR catalog with what its website calls the largest indoor tactical laser tag battlefield in the United States, more than 11,000 square feet of multi-level arena, and games that scale from 2v2 up to 10v10. My kids sprinted right into the firefights. Just plan ahead, because we booked online a few weeks in advance and the minimum age is 8. One caution across town: some of the shooters at Dave & Buster's got too intense for our 12-year-old, so check age ratings before younger kids play.
