Hey everyone, Blake here! I recently had the chance to take my family to check out a really cool virtual reality gaming truck called Game Truck Atlanta By Gamer vs Gamer that operates in Atlanta. As the owner of The Virtual Reviewer, where I post reviews on the latest and greatest in tech and gaming, I knew I had to give this unique gaming experience a try and let my loyal readers know if it’s worth checking out.
My wife Patty and I brought our two kids – John and Jenette – and met up with the game truck at a local park. Right away, we were impressed by the awesome custom paint job on the huge 30-foot trailer, decked out to look like a super cool gaming lounge on wheels! When we went inside, our minds were blown even more by the tricked-out interior with neon lights, leather chairs, giant 4K TVs lining the walls, and a booming surround sound system. It was like an awesome cross between a swanky VIP club, an intense eSports tournament center, and the ultimate gamer’s basement hangout!
The Experience
We were greeted by the owner, Corey, who couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming. He got us set up with some virtual reality headsets to try out, carefully explaining how they worked and making sure they were adjusted for comfort on each of our heads. Then the real fun began! We took turns playing various VR games, like battling waves of alien drones with laser blasters in Space Pirate Trainer, traversing through mystical ruins in the adventure game The Climb, and even coming face-to-face with Darth Vader in the incredibly immersive Star Wars: Vader Immortal series.
After working up an appetite, blasting spaceship, and dodging lightsabers in the virtual world, we took a break to chow down on some delicious popcorn, pizza, cupcakes, and cold drinks that Corey had ready for us, all free of charge! Once we were fueled up, my kids couldn’t wait to dive back into the world of VR gaming. Corey was awesome, constantly making sure we were all having a great time and that none of us experienced any motion sickness or discomfort from the VR headsets.
The Good Stuff
Our entire family had an absolute blast during our virtual reality gaming session with Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer! As both a parent and a tech geek, there were so many things I loved about the experience:
Next Level Gaming
As a lifelong video game lover, I’ve played it all – classic 80s and 90s arcade cabinets, my trusty Super Nintendo and PlayStation 1 back in the day, getting mindblown by the jump to HD gaming on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, building a sweet custom PC gaming rig, and now enjoying the cutting edge worlds made possible by virtual reality headsets on PC and my Oculus Quest 2.
So, I’ve seen a lot of gaming evolution and tech magic over the decades. That said, stepping into the Game Truck Atlanta and seeing their awesome setup of state-of-the-art VR gear was seriously next level to me. The visuals and sense of immersion were incredible with the Valve Index headsets they had, making me feel truly transported into the different virtual worlds. And they take all the headache out of the setup, with room tracking sensors already perfectly placed around the interior. All my family had to do was strap on the headsets and instantly be pulled into awesome VR adventures!
Tons of Variety
My kids and I have pretty diverse tastes when it comes to games. John loves first-person shooters and battle royale games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. Jenette is all about sandbox adventures and exploring magical worlds. And me, well, I’m still that 80s kid at heart who loves some Mario, Zelda, and arcade classics!
Luckily, Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer had us ALL covered with a stellar lineup of VR games to choose from. We got to battle stormtroopers with lightsabers in Vader Immortal, challenge each other to intergalactic laser tag in Space Pirate Trainer, scale skyscrapers like Spider-Man in The Climb, and even revisit old-school vibes with VR ports of classic games like Pac-Man, Asteroids, and Sonic. No matter what we felt like playing, they had an option ready for us to dive into!
Totally Turnkey Experience
As much as we were all geeking out over the awesome VR gaming, I know experiences like this aren’t for everyone. Some people might find fancy headsets confusing or intimidating. Others may worry about things like motion sickness from VR movement. But Corey and his team at Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer have thought of EVERY little detail to make sure guests have an enjoyable time with zero hassle.
From carefully adjusting and fitting the VR gear for each person to making sure we had snacks and drinks on hand to even keeping motion sickness remedies around just in case, Corey handheld us through everything. My wife Patty isn’t usually big on gaming herself, but even she had a wonderful time, thanks to Corey making sure she was included and knew how to play each game before jumping in. For families and friend groups where not everyone may be a tech whiz, Game Truck Atlanta offers a completely turnkey, hassle-free way to enjoy cutting-edge virtual reality gaming together.
Room for Improvement
While our whole family agreed that Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer gave us one of our best gaming memories ever, no experience is 100% perfect. There were a small few things I felt could be tweaked or improved for an even better customer experience:
More Traditional Gaming Options
While the truck’s awesome VR headset setup takes center stage, they also have three massive 4K TVs lining the walls for non-VR gaming. However, the only traditional gaming options available were an Xbox One S and a Nintendo Switch. Don’t get me wrong, both awesome consoles with great game libraries!
But with VR experiences covering newer tech so well, it felt oddly lacking to not also have a PlayStation 5 or high-end gaming PC available for customers not interested in VR. Those looking for cutting-edge non-VR games on the newest consoles may be a tiny bit disappointed. Adding a PlayStation 5 and beefy PC gaming rig to the mix would give groups with varied interests the most options.
Snack Selection Limited
As I mentioned earlier, Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer kindly offered my family drinks, popcorn, pizza, and cupcakes during our gaming session! While these made for a tasty treat, having more snack variety could be nice for future customers. Things like chips, candy, and other finger foods to munch on while not wearing the VR headsets may help round out the included refreshments.
And having some healthier fruit or vegetable tray options in addition to pizza and sweets would be welcome for those trying to eat light. Overall though, the included food and drinks were still great! Just a few more munchie options could make it even better.
Price Point Prohibitive for Some
Finally, the only other small downside is that enjoying Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer’s killer VR gaming experiences does not come cheap! They have awesome packages for big groups and longer session times…but all at pretty premium prices. For my family of four playing for two hours, our session cost around $600+ altogether. Worth every penny for the cutting-edge tech, excellent service, and memories made in my opinion!
However, I can see the pricing putting it out of reach for some families or smaller groups hoping to try mobile VR gaming. Introducing shorter session options or smaller group packages at lower price points could make the gaming truck more accessible overall. Even if they have to scale back things like the included drinks and snacks for cheaper tiers, opening up the futuristic mobile arcade at lower buy-in costs would be awesome.
The Verdict
At the end of our epic two-hour virtual reality gaming, my smiling kids excitedly asked me and my wife Patty, “Can we do this EVERY YEAR for our birthdays?!” I think that reaction alone shows just how special having Game Truck Atlanta by Gamer vs Gamer host your next family gaming event, birthday party, or even corporate team-building session can be.
Between the absolute top-notch VR gear providing next-level immersive gaming, the passionate and welcoming customer service from owner Corey and team, and the cool neon atmosphere perfect for all ages — I can’t recommend this mobile gaming truck enough to fellow gamers and tech heads in the Atlanta area.
Just be sure to book early, as this awesome VR gaming truck stays very busy bringing interactive virtual worlds to happy players all over Atlanta and beyond. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy this one-of-a-kind mobile arcade experience the next time they roll your way!
