You guys know that I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting VR experiences all over the country. So when I heard about Fixation VR, a brand new, state-of-the-art arcade in Hurst, I knew my family and I had to check it out. This 16,000-square-foot arcade promises to be the largest and most advanced VR playground in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
My first impressions when we walked into Fixation were extremely positive. The space itself was massive, with high ceilings, polished concrete floors, and a very modern, industrial look and feel. As soon as we entered, friendly staff members welcomed us and gave us a quick rundown of the various VR packages and options. We opted for the 2-hour party package, which included 90 minutes of unlimited VR gameplay and 30 minutes in a private party area for cake and gifts.
One nice amenity that stood out was the cubby area where we could securely store our phones, wallets, and other personal belongings in our own locked cubby while playing. This gave us peace of mind that our stuff would be safe while we were immersed in virtual worlds. The arcade itself was also spacious, clean, and well organized into different sections – a free roam arena, multiplayer action bays, premium games area, redemption games, and more. I could already tell this was leaps and bounds ahead of other VR arcades I had visited in the past in terms of space, tech, and overall polish.
Games Selection
I was floored by the sheer variety of VR games and experiences available to play at Fixation – tens of different titles spanning all genres, from shooters to exploration, to music and rhythm, puzzles, sports, and more. As a hardcore gamer, I appreciated that they catered to both casual casual players and serious enthusiasts, with options for all ages and skill levels.
Some of the highlights my family and I tried included Smash Point VR, a futuristic shooter that uses actual recoil guns for very realistic gameplay. They also had advanced haptic feedback vests you could wear for an extra fee that makes you feel every shot or punch. Another favorite was Propagation VR, an intense zombie shooter that lets you battle waves of undead either solo or in online co-op with others. The graphics were fantastic, and the jump scares kept us shrieking in terror!
For the kids, Fixation had a ton of family-friendly games like Vacation Simulator, which lets you relax on a tropical island, Cook Out, where you run your fast food restaurant, and BAAM Squad – a cute adventure featuring adorable aliens. Even though I’m a hardcore gamer, I’ll admit these put a smile on my face too. They also had a separate kid’s package that came with height adjusters for the headsets and controllers so even my 12-year-old daughter could join in on the fun.
Some of the more unique experiences included Sweet Escape – an Alice in Wonderland adventure where you solve puzzles by painting 3D objects into the world. There was also a pixel art coloring game called Tilt Brush and Richie’s Plank that had you walking out on a plank over a tall building! Of course, Beat Saber was also available, which I think is an obligatory staple of any good VR arcade at this point.
Overall, my family and I were thrilled by Fixation’s huge library of games and experiences with something new and fun to try around every corner. Between the cutting-edge tech and massive variety, it promises to stay fresh and exciting even for frequent visitors.
Staff & Customer Service
I want to especially commend Fixation VR’s outstanding staff for making our experience so enjoyable from start to finish. From the initial check-in process to equipping our gear to answering any questions about games, they were friendly, enthusiastic, and engaging the entire time.
Our main attendant DJ walked us through every step, got our gear properly fitted, calibrated each headset to our specifications, and gave us a quick tutorial on the controllers before letting us loose. What’s great is he customized recommendations based on our interests – hardcore shooters and zombies for me and more family-friendly explorations for my wife and daughter. He also regularly checked back in to answer questions, help us troubleshoot anything, or just chat about our favorite games and experiences.
You could tell these employees genuinely enjoy working here and sharing their passion for VR with others. My teenage son even said he wanted to work at Fixation someday because the environment seemed so fun! Beyond the concierge staff, they also had dedicated game attendants assigned to each section who would assist you with getting set up, explain game mechanics, adjust any settings, and help out if you got stuck. With staff readily available, we always felt supported.
So, if outstanding customer service and hospitality are priorities for you, Fixation VR delivers in spades. The entire team’s friendliness, enthusiasm, and generosity absolutely enhanced an already awesome experience.
Party Area & Food Options
After our epic 90-minute VR gameplay session, we still had 30 minutes left to enjoy our private party area. Fixation has a special wing dedicated to hosting birthdays and events with tables, chairs, decorations, and the ability to bring in outside food and eat together as a party. We happily munched on the sub sandwiches and birthday cake my thoughtful wife Patty had packed for our son’s special day.
The space itself was cheerful and colorful with Fixation branding, neon lighting, and quotes like “Eat, Drink, Play VR” in the fun bubbly font on the walls. Upbeat gaming music played in the background as well. We enjoyed having our own designated area to relax and refuel together after working up fierce appetites from all that gaming!
I will say Fixation’s bring your own food & drink policy is both a pro and a con. While it’s great they allow outside snacks to keep costs down, having some on-site cafe or concession stand food options would be more convenient. At a minimum, some vending machines with drinks, snacks, or candy for purchase would be a smart addition. We were parched and hungry after all that gaming! I did notice they were building out a kitchen area in the back which will hopefully be a future cafe. But overall, the party area experience was still comfortable, private, and festive – a welcome respite after our adrenaline-filled gaming.
Overall Experience
After spending nearly 3 exciting hours at Fixation VR for my son’s birthday, I can definitively say this arcade delivers an absolute blast of non-stop fun and adventure for gamers of all types. With the huge variety of cutting-edge VR titles, spacious arena-style layout, enthusiastic staff, and extras like party rooms – it’s the whole package.
While I’ve dabbled in VR before with my Oculus Rift at home, having an entire warehouse dedicated to virtual reality on this scale took things to new heights. Everywhere you turned there was some new experience to try – escaping rooftop zombies in Arizona Sunshine, defending the future from killer robots in Raw Data, battling monsters with magical weapons in Vanishing Realms – your imagination is the only limit.
Pricing at Fixation felt reasonable and on par with competitors in the area at $50 per person for 60-minute sessions. They also offer bulk packages for big groups or longer sessions at discounted rates. Parents will also appreciate specialized kids’ packages that come with height adjusters for younger players.
All in all, if you’re looking for a killer VR playground with nonstop entertainment for all skill levels and play styles, Fixation VR is highly recommended. With outstanding customer service, pristine gear sanitation, an ever-expanding game catalog, thrilling experiences around every corner, and fun for all ages – it’s an absolute winner in my book. This tech-fanatic dad gives Fixation 5 stars and can’t wait to plan our next visit very soon!
